Document what is running
Record controllers, instruments, alarms, network connections and operator procedures. Note any legacy component that cannot be replaced during the first stage.
Test before cutover
Verify data mapping, alarms, access rights and manual controls in a test environment where possible. Plan the cutover with the site team and prepare a recovery procedure.
Measure the outcome
After handover, review system availability, alarm response and operator feedback. Cost and reliability benefits require a measured baseline before they can be claimed.
